In 1963-1964, Grand Worthy Matron, Sis. Clara P. Bass, Burns No. 31,
Maysville, recommended the creation of the Clara Bass Choir to render
musical selections during the Grand Communications.
It was adopted.
The chorus is composed of Eastern Star members who
like to sing.
In addition to
singing at Grand Communications the chorus sang for the Seventy-Fifth
Diamond Anniversary of the Masons, in 1942, Lynch, KY as the “Eastern Star
Choir,” under the direction of Sis. Elizabeth Gordon.
In 1992 the chorus sang for the Annual Banquet.
In 1993 the chorus sang for the Honorary Grand
Master’s Scholarship Program in Lexington, KY.
They sang in Paducah for the support the Stars
Program.
In 1992 the Grand
Board voted to pay expenses for choir collars and Clara Bass Books.
This project was chaired by Past Grand Worthy
Matron, Sis. Valerie Newsome and Sis. Emma Crutchfield. She produced the
collars and Brother Alfonse Vance printed the songs, which were compiled by
the chairpersons.
Associated with the
choir as leader or pianists have been Sis. Polly Bell, Sis. Geneva Jackson,
Sis. Sarah McClure, Sis. Alfreda Shannon, Sis. Molly Bradley, PGWM, Sis.
Anna Oglesby, Sis. Vickie Broker, Sis. Thelma Hampton, Sis. Rose Scott, Sis.
Amelia Guy, Sis. Cornine Harber, Sis.
Donna Hawkins, PGWM; Sis. Carolyn Burton, Sis.
Vickie Scott.
Sis. Alfreda
Shannon, Zorah No. 20, gave more than 24 years of service to the Clara Bass
Choir.
