The Stokes, Finley, Mahan Memorial Home was established in memory of  Past Grand Worthy Matron, Belle Stokes, Buretta Finley a friend who gave $500.00 to the O.E.S. and Mrs. Virginia Mahan a friend of the Stokes family.  The home is located at 4200 West Broadway, in Louisville, Kentucky.  The first Trustees were: Sis.Hattie L. Taylor, Past Grand Worthy Matron; Bro. Thurman W. Haynie; and Sis. Lillian B. Morris; Sis. Willie R. Welborn; Bro. Porter Hatcher.  Sis. Ovetta Basey, Past Grand Worthy Matron, suggested the name for the house.

The pioneers of the home wanted to make sure that housing was available to whoever needed it.  Over the years, rooms in the home have been rented by members of the order and individuals in the community for a nominal fee.  Cecelia Dunlap Grand Chapter, Subordinate Chapter and Districts have made annual contributions to support the efforts of the home.

In 2002, at the 107th Grand Communications in Paducah, the deed from Sis. Hattie L. Taylor and former owners was presented to Grand Worthy Matron, Donna N. Hawkins by Most Worshipful Grand Master, Pink J. Garner. It was accepted by the Grand Chapter with signing of all documents.

Since 2002, there have been many fundraisers such as Appreciation Banquets, and special projects to assist with the upkeep of the home. The First Appreciation was held in honor of Past Grand Worthy Matron, Sis. Hattie L. Taylor.

Also in 2002 a board was established to manage the home.  The board was composed of the following members:

Sis. Frances Wall, Grand Worthy Matron; Bro. Robert Harrison, Grand Worthy Patron; Sis. Betty Bell, Grand Conductress, Sis. Willie Pearl Croom, Honored Grand Secretary, Bro. Harold Goode, Past Grand Worthy Patron.  We are appreciative to Bro. Harold Goode, for his continued work and dedicated service to the home.

There have been many improvements at the home.  These includes: telephone, heating, security system, plumbing, and electrical.  These improvements are an ongoing project.  Several brothers and sisters of the Order have volunteered their time and talent to the upkeep of the home.

On March 1, 2003 Donna Newsome Hawkins, Grand Worthy Matron held on appreciation at the home to honor Sis. Florence Carter, Sis. Willie Pearl Croom, Sis. Ann Goode, Bro. Arthur King, Sr. Bro. Shirley Crockett, Sis. Nellie Gamble, Bro. Harold Goode, Bro. Ulysses Lee for their tireless work in the preservation of the home.

It was recommended by Sis Pamela H. Thompson, Past Grand Worthy Matron, to make the Home the Headquarters for the Grand Chapter.  This recommendation was accepted by the Grand Body.  The Office of the Grand Worthy Matron is now located at the home.  All Grand Chapter furniture, which was purchased and dedicated in 1993, is now being stored at the home. Grand Chapter paraphernalia is stored there as well.
